When looking for the best roof cleaning method, it can be quite tricky to find the best one for your situation. You should be aware that it is not always east to remove those ugly stains on your roof, which could be caused by moss, lichens and algae. If the stain problem is still not too serious, you can clean up the roof quite easily using standard pressure washers. If possible, you should use only hot water, without any chemical, including detergent. Some cleaning solutions contain chlorine, phosphate and other substances which can pollute waterways and kill vegetation at your home. Pressure washer should be safe for fibreglass shingles and asphalt, but you shouldn’t set the pressure too high to avoid damaging them.

When you use pressure washer, the result is often quite instant and the stains are effectively dissolved. You don’t need to hire any skilled technician to do this, because you only need to point the nozzle to the roof area that you want to clean. If the stain is harder to remove and you need a cleaning product, it is important that you choose the one that’s eco-friendly. Because the task is easy to complete, you can do it regularly once every two or three months, depending on your schedule and the condition of your roof. You can do this slowly and meticulously to ensure that there’s stains that are left behind on your roof. However, making the stain completely can be a tedious task if you haven’t cleaned up the roof for years. The stain may even already penetrate the surface of the roofing material and t is probably necessary to use more aggressive cleaning methods.

When the problem is more serious, you should consider choosing chlorine-bleach mixture. Sodium hypochlorite or better known as chlorine bleach can be mixed with TSP or trisodium phosphate. You need to spray the mixture on the roof and wait until it dries. The mixture will need to be reapplied several times until the stains starts to diminish. You don’t need to rinse the roof and just let the mixture sunbaked on the roof. You can allow the dry mixture to come off with the rain. Bleach solution is typically more affordable than other chemicals. However, you should be aware that bleach solution doesn’t provide you with instant results, especially if the stain has accumulated for years on the roof. Another risk is that chlorine bleach may potentially cause harm on pets and people. It’s a potent oxidizing agent and may break various protein structures, such as cuticle on plants.

It is possible that the solution will eventually cause permanent damage to the surrounding vegetation in your home. Phosphate and bleach may also leach into any waterway in your area, which is clearly not a good thing to have. When cleaning your roof, it is important to make sure that you are able to keep things safe and secure.
